Hi, I’m Sam Smith, a men’s fitness coach with more than 10 years of experience training men in person and online, and the author of five books on stamina, fitness, nutrition and relationships. I help busy men get fitter, leaner and more confident, with training, food and habits that fit real life. No pills, no gimmicks.

Coach, not doctor

I’m a fitness coach, not a medical doctor. Everything on this site is educational. If you have a health condition, take medication or have symptoms that worry you, please see your doctor first. I’ll always tell you when something needs a medical check.

My story: from 91 kg to 80 kg

I wasn’t born into fitness. There was a time I barely recognised myself in the mirror. I’d let myself go, I felt sluggish and stuck at 91 kilograms, and I’d half convinced myself that this was just who I’d become.

Like most people, I went looking for answers online: YouTube, Instagram, X and every fitness blog I could find. I bought equipment I didn’t use. I trained at home, then joined a gym, and for a long time I didn’t really know what I was doing. What I did do was keep showing up. When I finally saw the results of that consistency, I fell in love with the process.

Losing those 11 kilograms was never just about a smaller size. It was about building a stronger, healthier version of myself, and it was only the start. I had to learn how to eat for training, stay disciplined and build real strength. That’s where I learned that fitness is a marathon, not a sprint, and why consistency beats intensity.

Why I believe in guidance

At some point, determination wasn’t enough. I started working with a personal trainer and a nutritionist, and it was the best decision I ever made. My trainer taught me how to structure my workouts and, just as importantly, reminded me I was capable of more than I thought. My nutritionist showed me that eating well isn’t about restriction. It’s about fuelling training and recovery: balancing protein, carbs and fats, eating around workouts and staying hydrated.

I know how it feels to be confused, overwhelmed and stuck. That’s why I coach: so you don’t have to learn everything the hard way like I did.

Why I started this website

When I began, I saw endless misinformation online: crash diets, quick fixes and plans that never delivered. I started posting on X as a training diary, and as more people found it useful, I began sharing full workouts, the science behind exercises and diet myth-busting. Tweets weren’t enough for that, so I built this site: one place with full guides, complete plans and nutrition advice, checked against real research.

How I coach

As more readers asked for personal help, I trained formally as a fitness trainer and moved from sharing tips to coaching clients one to one. My approach is simple:

  • Evidence first. Plans are based on current research and official guidelines, not trends.
  • Built around you. I start with your training history, lifestyle, schedule, food preferences, health and goals.
  • Safe and sustainable. A balanced mix of strength training, cardio and mobility you can actually keep doing.
  • Food that supports your goal. Calories, protein and simple meals you enjoy, with swaps and a shopping list.
  • Honest about limits. If something needs a doctor, I’ll say so.
